a strange thing. … i just came back from my vacation to the Yucatan [more on that later] and in typical fashion, i attended an outdoor concert two days later. let me say this, for a free show in the heart of San Jose, ‘the heart of Silicon Valley’ and also known as a black hole for music, culture and arts until recently, this event was, well, bumpin’.
Flogging Molly headlined the free event, part of an annual live music series, Music in the Park. the band, a local staple for more than 10 years before they became well known. anyhoo, the San Jose veterans literally rocked the pants off this quiet techie, suburban haven. i’ve never seen the park so crowded with people.
the irish group drove the revelers into an almost frenetic state, with people dancing, swinging and [some] moshing to the accordion and fiddle. seriously.
the variety of people there was, well, it brings a smile to my face just thinking of it. from the 10-inch, purple mohawked punkers to the flannel-wearing, two-braid-wearing girls everyone and almost every click was represented. i never saw so many lip rings or so many redheads [natural] in one place in my life. and the ages as well as ethnicity were equally diverse.
i always think a musical group or musician that attracts all shapes, states and sentiments is one that will last and is worth a listen to.
welcome back! i anxiously await news of your trip. miss you!
